Moving locally or across town?
We can do that

Straight talk alert: All of a customer’s goods are covered at least with basic liability coverage automatically. Better coverage requires the payment of a premium up front and must be purchased prior to the commencement of services. You can’t add it after something gets broken, just like you can’t take the coverage off the bill when everything goes just fine. Yes, people ask this sometimes. Just an fyi, insurance fraud is against the law but people who try to defraud a moving company are “smart consumers”. Go figure.
The backstory: Basic liability costs you nothing and protects your goods at $0.60 per pound per article. This is based on regulations set by the Public Utilities Commission in California and the US Department of Transportation nationwide, and is the same for all licensed movers. It is NOT full coverage, not even close. Think about this, how could movers afford to insure the literally billions of dollars worth of goods that they haul annually, for free?
That’s why the regulators came up with this “limited liability” coverage. If you go with the basic coverage and something gets broken, the mover will pay the weight of the item times $0.60, no matter whose fault the damage is. This does not happen often, but when it does, you will get a prompt check from us or we will try to repair it for you if that is less expensive. In reality, this rarely ever happens. You can’t repair a chair that weighs 20 pounds for less than $12. Most reputable repair firms charge at least $150 to survey the damage and make an estimate. Really!
This is not a choice we make, we are a highly regulated industry. If you want better coverage ask your representative about Replacement coverage.
It’s actually pretty inexpensive if you get one of the deductible options. Always ask your insurance agent (your actually insurance expert that you pay for all your insurances) if your homeowners or renters policy will cover your goods in transit, because many of them do per the terms and limitations of the policy. Because that is insurance. And accidental damage and or loss is the reason you have insurance, right? There is also third party coverage you can get from specialty insurance companies if you need it. If you plan to move valuable items, check into this subject or ask your Champion representative to tell you all about it. And always tell your mover which items are really valuable and need extra care. We don’t always know unless you tell us.
